I am a PhD student in the Department of Information Systems and Biomedical Multimedia Unit – The University of Melbourne. I have been awarded a Melbourne International scholarship and Science Faculty Scholarship to undertake my PhD. My main area of interest focuses on Health Informatics. I also have research interests in e-commerce and e-government. I have Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Public Administration from the University of Jordan.
I am currently working towards an understanding of the information needs of consumers of health information systems especially the informal carers, as well as the design features that facilitate access to required information. Informal carers provide free healthcare services for people who are unable to care for themselves, often parents, children, or relatives. They play a major role in assisting and supporting formal healthcare services, and carry out many primary care duties. Despite the importance of informal carers to the community, there has been little research that explores their information needs comprehensively. Understanding these needs assist in decision making and effective care giving. My PhD thesis aims to understand and build a comprehensive picture (depth and breadth) of informal carers’ information needs as experienced by them as well as the design features that facilitate access to required information.
