Research

My PhD was completed in early 2008  and examines routine, manual information systems  (RMIS) and
provides a theory for how they work. The thesis  explains this novel category of Information Systems and applies the
Theory of Affordances as a tool for understanding these
systems.  I would be excited to discuss  my ideas  in this area with
interested researchers.  My  most recent publication in this area is
attached.

I have also been involved in other recent work on data privacy and am interested in how new privacy legislation

in Australia and overseas impacts on the way organizations manage data. I am also interested in, and continue to work with,

health information systems and am always keen to discuss new research projects with potential research students in this area.
I  currently have PhD and Honours students working in the area  of nursing information systems and  medical  error  reporting

Recent Masters students have been involved in projects relating to IS and hospital workflow.  I am also involved in two other exciting
projects: to inprove  emergency department systems and to improve the presentation of pathology results.
